Jo Clift

Biography

Jo is Chair of the General Osteopathic Council.  She has been a Non-Exec director in a number of organisations, including the Government Internal Audit Agency.  Jo also works as a board effectiveness consultant, running board reviews across a range of high profile NDPBs. 

Previously Jo spent twenty years as a senior civil servant at the heart of Whitehall.  Initially she worked as communications specialist, advising Cabinet Office Ministers, and spending some time in the Downing Street press office.  Subsequently she was Head of Communications for the BSE Inquiry.

Her Civil Service career spanned roles in policy, strategy, delivery and large-scale transformation across Whitehall.  She led the UK government’s strategy, policy and initial implementation of shared corporate services.  Following a two year secondment to  Deloitte Consulting, she led the creation of the ICT strategy for the coalition government.  Jo also set up and led The Centre for Public Appointments in government, working to improve the calibre of Non-Executive directors on our public boards.  Subsequently, she led the team creating a draft Bill on Ombudsman reform.
