Join the Register of Veterinary Surgeons

Starting your career as a veterinary surgeon in the UK begins with joining the RCVS Register. Registration makes you an RCVS Member (MRCVS) and is required by UK law before you can practise. This ensures all veterinary professionals meet the same high standards, protecting both animal health and public trust in our profession.

The Veterinary Graduate Development Programme (VetGDP)

The Veterinary Graduate Development Programme (VetGDP) provides tailored support for recent graduates, overseas-qualified veterinary surgeons, and those returning to the UK Register. This structured 12 to 18 month programme helps vets develop confidence and adjust to their new roles.
