Dr James Tong
Biography
I started my career “seeing practice” in a local practice during the school holidays in West Yorkshire and surprising many people, including myself, I gained a place at the University of Liverpool Veterinary School and graduated in 1986 and started work straight away at a large animal practice in North Yorkshire, working with farm animals and horses.
In 1987 I joined the Cromwell Veterinary Group in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire to work entirely with horses. In 1989 I helped establish an independent equine-only practice Fellowes Farm Equine Clinic at Abbots Ripton, Cambridgeshire, which specialises in the care and treatment of equine patients.
I completed my CertVR in 1989 and my CertEP in 1992 and am an Advanced Practitioner in Equine Practice. I was the senior partner at Fellowes Farm for over 20 years and saw the practice grow to a thriving ten vet equine practice undertakes both first and second opinion work.
In 2015 I began working part time for the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) as a Veterinary Officer as well as my time at Fellowes Farm. I retired from Fellowes Farm in 2021 and continue to work for the BHA.
I am married with three daughters and one granddaughter and live in Cambridgeshire. Outside work I am an avid collector of obscure vinyl records, attempt to restore classic cars and collect and repair vintage watches.
