About the CertAVN
The Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (CertAVN) is a post-registration qualification awarded by the RCVS. It’s designed exclusively for qualified veterinary nurses who want deepen their expertise in a specific field of focus.
The CertAVN is usually offered at a minimum of level 6 (graduate) or level 7 (postgraduate level). It can also count towards further study, such as a masters degree.
Do I need to be a registered vet nurse?
You must be registered as a vet nurse with the RCVS before you can apply. How long you must have been registered depends on the programme you choose. Your previous experience will also be considered as part of your application.
How the CertAVN is structured
The CertAVN’s modular framework gives you the flexibility to shape your studies around your professional interests.
Approved in 2019, the framework has expanded to include a growing number of subject areas delivered through accredited course providers.
How CertAVN programmes are delivered
Most programmes use a blended learning approach, meaning you’ll do most of your work remotely but may need to attend some in-person sessions at your chosen provider’s campus.
