Requesting additional EPAs

The VetGDP Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) are designed to cover all areas of veterinary practice, across species and disciplines. Before requesting a new EPA, explore how existing activities can be adapted to your needs.  However, if you feel that the current EPAs do not adequately cover your responsibilities, please continue reading.

Before you request an EPA

The Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) in your e-portfolio are deliberately broad to cover a wide range of species and activities. At first glance, you may feel you need a more specific EPA to suit the speciality of the practice you are working in.

Before requesting a new EPA:

  • Carefully review the 16 existing EPAs. Most requests are declined because they overlap with what's already available.
  • Discuss your goals with your VetGDP Adviser, who can help you identify the best fit.
  • All approved EPAs become available to every VetGDP participant, so they must be widely relevant and maintain high standards.  If you need guidance, please email [email protected].

Submitting a request

If you believe a genuine gap exists after reviewing all current EPAs, you can submit a request through the 'Create new EPA' form in your e-portfolio. Provide clear justification for why a new EPA is needed and how it differs from current ones.

The RCVS Education Team will review your request before referring it to the VetGDP subcommittee for final approval.

Why most requests are declined

Most EPA requests are declined because they:

  • Overlap significantly with an existing EPA
  • Are too narrow or species-specific
  • Duplicate standard professional skills already integrated throughout the VetGDP
