We're inviting applications for a lay member, or non-veterinary professional, to join our RCVS Fellowship Science Advisory Panel.
The Fellowship Science Advisory Panel has been part of the Fellowship structure since 2018. As a lay member, you’ll give an independent perspective and help to balance viewpoints beyond the veterinary profession.
How the RCVS Fellowship Science Advisory Panel works
The panel works in two ways:
- Specialist subgroups research specific topics
- The main panel reviews the subgroup findings and advises on scientific soundness
When the RCVS submits scientific proposals that fall within the panel’s remit, the panel reviews them and provides evidence-based recommendations to the Fellowship and the wider veterinary profession.
Your role as a panel lay member
As a panel lay member, you'll:
- Review scientific proposals and research findings
- Contribute to panel discussions and recommendations
- Help ensure our advice meets the highest scientific standards
- Bring your expertise to support evidence-based veterinary practice
What we're looking for
You'll need:
- Experience in professional regulation
- A strong scientific background
- Experience reviewing research proposals
- Excellent communication skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Genuine enthusiasm for advancing veterinary science
Your time commitment
As a panel member, you’ll take part in three meetings a year for a three-year term, plus any urgent additional meetings. At the end of your term, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for renewal and continue your contribution.
