Riding establishments inspectorate list

Below is a list of approved riding establishment inspectors that can be filtered by county or surname. 

Local authorities are reminded that they are required under The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018, and the Riding Establishments Acts 1964 and 1970 (applicable in Scotland and Wales), only to use qualified inspectors who are on the current list.

Memorandum to veterinary surgeons

Veterinary surgeons who wish to remain as a member of the Inspectorate must maintain a ‘UK practising’ registration status, practise as equine veterinary surgeons and attend a RCVS refresher course every five years.

Licensing riding establishments in Scotland and Wales

Under the Acts of 1964 and 1970, riding establishments are required to be licensed by the local authority in which the establishment operates.

Guidance on the inspection

Under the Acts, the Inspector is required to inspect the horses and the premises to assess the operation of the riding establishment as a whole.
