EPA 10: Epidemiological investigation

Develop your understanding of veterinary epidemiological investigation and outbreak management. Learn systematic approaches to disease control, from initial data gathering to implementing biosecurity measures that protect animal and public health.

Description

This EPA focuses on your ability to investigate and manage disease outbreaks in animal groups using a structured, systematic approach. You'll gather relevant epidemiological data to identify the most likely cause of the outbreak and enable contact tracing to limit transmission of disease.

Your investigation must consider biosecurity, public health, and environmental impacts. The aim is to control disease transmission and prevent future outbreaks by understanding what has happened, how it has happened, and what can be done to prevent further spread and reoccurrence.

Success criteria

Your assessment will include variables across:

  • Different animal species
  • Various disease types
  • Multiple environmental contexts
  • Varying degrees of cooperation from animals and clients
